NYFE Summary

The Civic Club began as a neighborhood aid organization led by Frederick Norton Goddard. Its members offered personal help as well as money to people in the surrounding district. The building later became a gathering place for Estonian-American organizations.

The old Civic Club name remains over the curved central window and iron balcony. A steep roof with dormer windows crowns the narrow facade. The building connects two different periods of community life: local social reform and the preservation of Estonian language and culture.
