NYFE Summary
Many of the congregation’s early members came from the crowded Lower East Side. Their synagogue carried familiar forms from that neighborhood into a less densely built part of Queens. The congregation was part of Corona’s small Jewish community before the elevated railway transformed the area.
The front is organized around a central entrance and a large upper window containing a Star of David. Pointed windows and curved decorative sections add detail around the gable. The wooden structure preserves the scale of the neighborhood’s earlier houses.
