NYFE Summary

The building first welcomed visitors as New York City’s pavilion at the 1939 World’s Fair. From 1946 to 1950 it housed the United Nations General Assembly, before the organization moved to Manhattan. It returned to use as a fair pavilion in 1964.

The Panorama of the City of New York remains inside. This large architectural model was made for the second fair and depicts the five boroughs. The museum, which opened in 1972, combines this record of the city with art exhibitions and public programs.
