NYFE Summary

The zoo opened in 1968 on the former World’s Fair grounds. Its walk-through aviary reuses a geodesic dome that served as the Winston Churchill Pavilion at the 1964 fair. The Wildlife Conservation Society redesigned the zoo and reopened it in 1992.

The animal collection focuses on the Americas. Paths lead to bison, Andean bears and pudus, small deer from Chile and Argentina. A separate farmyard keeps domestic breeds, including Texas longhorn cattle and four-horned sheep.
