NYFE Summary
The Conservatory recreates several plant habitats under glass. Its galleries range from tropical rainforests to deserts, with aquatic plants and vines along the route. Different levels of heat, moisture and light allow plants from these environments to grow in the same building.
The central dome houses palms. Displays explain how these plants support ecosystems and supply people with food and other materials. Restoration work updated the dome’s ventilation, misting, heating and lighting systems. Those systems help maintain the growing conditions that visitors experience as they move through the galleries.
