NYFE Summary

Federal relief funding helped turn part of the park into a large public swimming complex during the Great Depression. The project combined pools, changing rooms, a playground and paths rather than treating swimming as a separate enclosure.

A broad stair rises to a brick arch between two square towers. Curving brick patterns fill the balcony panels and continue around the gallery inside the entrance court. The gateway gives a clear view of how ordinary brick was used to make a ceremonial entrance.
