NYFE Summary
More than 1,500 residents signed petitions for a branch after Andrew Carnegie offered money for neighborhood libraries. It first opened as the McKinley Square Branch. Its free collections brought public reading space into a rapidly growing residential area.
A carved city seal sits above the central doorway. Arched windows, a projecting stone entrance and lower side wings spread across the curving site. The building still serves readers and hosts public programs.
