NYFE Summary

The National Guard built this armory for a field-artillery unit descended from the Washington Gray Troop. Its large drill shed stood beside offices and other spaces used by the soldiers. Successor units remained here into the 1980s.

A tall corner tower, narrow windows and a stepped brick skyline give the front a fortress-like outline. The building follows the slope of the street rather than forming a symmetrical block. A later low addition repeated the original brick details along Franklin Avenue.
