NYFE Summary
The city built this facility when many tenement homes lacked bathrooms. Showers shared the building with a gymnasium, running track and rooftop playground. Later alterations turned the former bath into a recreation center.
Four large stone columns rise against the brick front. Decorative stonework and the curved roofline gave a public health building a prominent street presence.
