NYFE Summary
Edward Ridley & Sons expanded from a small shop into a department store serving the immigrant neighborhood. Its workforce grew into the thousands before the business closed in 1901. These two buildings survived after other parts of the store were removed.
The Grand Street fronts use cast iron for large windows and repeated decorative columns. One curves around the Orchard Street corner. A later street-widening project cut back the Allen Street side, leaving a different wall beside the older store front.
