NYFE Summary
This school’s H-shaped plan left open courtyards between its wings. They gave crowded classrooms more daylight and fresh air while leaving room for play. The layout helped protect those spaces from neighboring construction.
After the school closed in 1996 and faced demolition, a restoration converted it into homes and workspaces for artists. Look up from the street for the turrets, gargoyles, pointed window surrounds and copper spire.
