NYFE Summary

Puerto Rican artists founded the collective during a period of cultural and political activism in El Barrio. They made posters, organized outdoor exhibitions and joined music, poetry and visual art in community events. The gallery moved into the Julia de Burgos Latino Cultural Center in 2000.

Changing exhibitions continue that work inside a former public school. Outside, rows of tall windows, patterned brick and angular stone trim show how the building was designed for a growing immigrant neighborhood. The collective’s printmaking workshop now operates at a separate site.
