NYFE Summary

Engineers used steel caissons to carry the building’s loads down to firm ground. U.S. Steel made it a headquarters in 1901 and remained here until 1976.

A broad arched entrance gives the base the form of a triumphal arch. Above it, regular rows of windows rise toward open columned galleries and a projecting roofline.
