NYFE Summary
The institute taught architectural design through classes and graded competitions. Its founders had studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts in Paris and brought that training system to American students. A competition also selected the design for their own building.
The institute's name remains across the front. Colored ceramic panels by Rene Chambellan refer to buildings that students studied, including the Parthenon and St. Peter's. Together, the lettering and panels identify the building's original educational purpose.
