NYFE Summary
The Childs chain adapted this restaurant to its seaside setting rather than using a standard lunch-counter design. Broad arcades and a roof pergola allowed diners to look toward the ocean. The building served the crowds brought to Coney Island by the expanding subway system.
Colored terracotta surrounds the arches and upper windows with ships, fish, shells and Neptune’s face. The sculptural models were by Max Keck, with color work by Duncan Smith. These details remain the main features to look for from the boardwalk.
