NYFE Summary
The hotel was part of a wave of large hotels that changed an avenue of private mansions into a commercial district. Its elaborate exterior presented a different kind of luxury to guests arriving in the city.
Carved stonework gathers around the lower windows and corner entrances. Higher up, repeated window rows rise to a broad projecting cornice. The contrast between the decorated base and tall upper walls can be seen from both street fronts.
