NYFE Summary

Educator Lydia Wadleigh developed an advanced course for girls here when their public schooling was limited. That program helped lead toward the city’s first official public high school for girls in 1897. School use ended in 1914, and the Police Athletic League later occupied the building.

Brownstone walls and rusticated lower courses give the small school a substantial street front. Projecting end sections rise to triangular pediments, with rows of regularly spaced windows between them.
