NYFE Summary
From 1972 to 1987, a collective of women’s organizations used the building for meetings, events and services. Lesbian Feminist Liberation organized here, while the Lesbian Switchboard provided information and referrals. The groups created their own space within movements that often gave women less room to lead.
The old firehouse retains its large vehicle entrance. Cast-iron columns and floral details frame the opening, while arched window tops and a bracketed cornice decorate the red-brick walls above.
