NYFE Summary

Inventor Antonio Meucci lived here with his wife, Ester. He made candles on the property and experimented with devices for transmitting speech. The museum describes a system that connected Ester’s upstairs room with his workshop, allowing them to speak while apart.

Giuseppe Garibaldi stayed with the Meuccis while in exile from Italy and worked with Antonio making candles. He later returned to the campaign for Italian unification. Guided tours of the cottage explain both men’s lives. The museum also runs Italian language classes and programs about art and opera.
