NYFE Summary
Producer Winthrop Ames wanted a room where actors could convey small changes of expression. His original Little Theatre seated only 299 people. Later alterations added capacity while keeping the scale smaller than Broadway’s large musical houses.
The building also served as a broadcasting studio and lecture hall. Second Stage bought it in 2015 and made it a home for contemporary American plays. Rows of small windows rise above the entrance in a red-brick front.
