NYFE Summary

Archer Huntington built the collection around the art and cultures of Spain and Portugal. It also includes work from Latin America and the Philippines. Paintings sit alongside sculpture, ceramics, metalwork and other objects, showing both fine art and the design of everyday and ceremonial objects.

Joaquín Sorolla’s Vision of Spain surrounds its gallery with fourteen large paintings of regional dress, work and customs. Huntington commissioned the series, and Sorolla painted it in locations across Spain. The museum lists it as a long-term display. Museum visits require a reserved ticket; research-library access is arranged separately.
