NYFE Summary

NYU established this research institute with support from the Leon Levy Foundation. Its scholars study connections among ancient societies, from the Mediterranean through Central Asia to the Pacific. Public exhibitions bring objects and research from that work into the galleries.

The galleries occupy a former townhouse that was later the headquarters of the American Jewish Congress. Changing displays examine ancient art, beliefs and daily life. The institute also offers public lectures; its academic offices and research library have separate access rules.
