NYFE Summary
The shipping company transformed the earlier Washington Building into its headquarters and passenger-booking offices. New stone cladding concealed much of the earlier design, and its tower and roof ornaments were removed.
Shields around the facade represent ports served by the company’s ships. Nautical details turn the street front into a record of ocean travel, beside the open space of Bowling Green.
