NYFE Summary
Jackie Robinson entered modern Major League Baseball in 1947 and continued working for civil rights beyond the ballfield. The museum uses contracts, letters, photographs and films to tell that story. A scale model of Ebbets Field combines video, projections and audio about baseball in his time.
The museum occupies part of a former manufacturing building positioned to use the new Holland Tunnel. Outside, vertical brick piers meet textured horizontal bands and projecting blocks. The large entrances and loading bays reflect its original commercial purpose.
