NYFE Summary

The Chanin brothers planned three neighboring theaters of different sizes. This was the smallest, first called the Theatre Masque and intended for intimate drama. Producer John Golden took over its management and renamed it in 1937.

Samuel Beckett’s Waiting for Godot had its Broadway premiere here in 1956. Tall arched windows and a tiled roof supported by small columns distinguish the exterior. The close scale of the auditorium reflects the building’s original purpose.
