NYFE Summary
Sea captain Joseph King bought the house in 1801 and gave it the name Kingsland. His daughter Mary returned here with her children after her husband died, and descendants remained into the twentieth century. Preservationists moved the house in 1968 to save it from redevelopment.
Its present setting was once part of the Parsons family’s plant nursery. Inside, exhibitions cover the people who lived in the house and the history of Queens. The Queens Historical Society also maintains an archive and research library, and runs tours and public programs.
