NYFE Summary

German musicians built a clubhouse here with meeting and performance rooms. A later singing society changed the front. Ellen Stewart brought La MaMa here in 1969 after founding the theater in a small rented space.

The narrow red-brick front has cast-iron columns, curved window tops and sculpted composer portraits. Its musical origins remain visible above the theater entrance. La MaMa later renovated the building for performances and community arts work.
