NYFE Summary

The poet spent the last twenty years of his life here, using the top floor as his workroom. During those years he published Montage of a Dream Deferred and developed the stories of Jesse B. Semple, whose conversations drew on everyday life in Harlem.

The brownstone front has arched window surrounds, a bracketed roof cornice and a raised entrance reached by a stoop. These features remain part of the house associated with his long residence and writing.
