NYFE Summary

The house was moved from Flatbush to Prospect Park in 1918. Its interpretation now extends beyond the Lefferts family. ReImagine Lefferts focuses on the Lenape people whose land became Brooklyn and the Africans enslaved by the family. Research has identified twenty-five people whom the Lefferts family enslaved.

Visitors encounter this history through artifacts, a working garden and indoor and outdoor programs. The museum connects the house’s household and farming history with the lives of people whose work sustained it. Its activities also explore the continuing cultures of Indigenous and African-descended communities.
