NYFE Summary

The Chanin organization built this playhouse and named it for actor Richard Mansfield. Its next name honored New York Times drama critic Brooks Atkinson in 1960.

In 2022 it became the first Broadway theater named for a Black woman. The name honors Horne’s work as a performer and civil rights activist. Above the marquee, arched windows and a tiled roofline distinguish its street front.
