NYFE Summary

The building was intended as a permanent home for Maurice Schwartz's Yiddish Art Theater. Although his company stayed for only four seasons, Yiddish productions continued here under other management. The later Phoenix Theater brought another period of off-Broadway drama to the same building.

A large decorated arch rises above the corner entrance, with paired arched windows along the upper walls. These features remain visible on the working cinema's street front. The building preserves part of the history of Second Avenue's Yiddish theater district.
