NYFE Summary
Producer Daniel Frohman planned to bring his stock company to this playhouse, then adopted the growing practice of long-running productions instead of a changing repertory. Early shows included The Admirable Crichton and A Doll’s House. Judy Holliday later starred here in Born Yesterday.
Banded columns and theatrical masks decorate the limestone front. Above them, an apartment built for Frohman forms part of the roofline. The exterior preserves details of a theater that combined performance spaces, rehearsal rooms, workshops and its manager’s home.
