NYFE Summary
Works Progress Administration funding helped the city build this large swimming and recreation complex during the Depression. The design combined pools with changing rooms, spectator areas and buildings for year-round recreation. Its entrance was intended to make that scale visible from the street.
Two enormous brick arches pass through a tall entrance block. A recessed upper gallery and patterned brickwork lighten the solid form. Smaller arches link the bathhouse to its neighboring service buildings.
