NYFE Summary

The insurance company commissioned an early steel-framed headquarters here. After its financial troubles, the property became known as the Langdon Building and continued in office use.

The city's Landmarks Preservation Commission later had its first long-term headquarters inside. Outside, rough stonework and repeated round arches give the lower floors a different weight from the rows of windows above. The preservation agency's former home eventually became a landmark itself.
