NYFE Summary

Families bought marble burial chambers beneath the lawn. Names and vault numbers were recorded on plaques in the surrounding walls, leaving the garden without rows of individual gravestones.

The project was a business venture by Perkins Nichols and lawyers Anthony Dey and George W. Strong. Sales of the vaults paid for their construction.
