NYFE Summary

The recorded-sound archive began in 1965. Its recordings and related objects document how people recorded and played sound from the late 1800s onward. The collections include early Metropolitan Opera performances.

Visitors can browse books, scores, CDs and DVDs in the circulating collection. Research holdings include dance historian Selma Jeanne Cohen’s teaching and criticism papers. A play-reading group also brings readers together to discuss scripts from the collection.
