NYFE Summary

St. Luke’s Hospital built these wings for patients who could pay for private rooms. Their fees helped support the hospital’s other work. The pavilions formed part of a larger plan of separate hospital buildings connected around a central administration block.

The two rooflines show how the hospital’s design changed. Plant has a steep mansard roof with decorated dormer windows. The later Scrymser wing uses simpler brick walls and upper terraces in place of a mansard roof.
