NYFE Summary

Miriam Colón founded the company to bring bilingual theater to New York neighborhoods. It later converted this firehouse into a permanent stage. The red cast-iron entrance still has floral decoration from its earlier life as a municipal building.

Plays and musicals connect the theater with Puerto Rican and Latino writers and audiences. Its work joined with the Bronx-based Pregones ensemble in 2014. This Manhattan playhouse remains a separate performance venue from the company’s Bronx home.
