NYFE Summary

The stone building began as All Saints’ Church and later became the home of St. Augustine’s congregation. Its projecting central tower and pointed upper windows adapt an older rectangular church form.

Two small upper rooms known as the Slave Galleries preserve evidence of racial separation in worship. The church’s interpretation connects them with Black New Yorkers who were kept apart from white congregants. Visits to the galleries are arranged through the church.
