NYFE Summary
Rutherford Stuyvesant gave the building in memory of his wife, Mary. It combined worship with a library, reading room, school and nursery. A Carpatho-Rusyn Orthodox congregation began renting it in 1925 and bought it in 1937.
A square tower rises above the former school rooms. The chapel’s tall pointed windows stand beside a recessed entrance, all in red brick and terra cotta. A winged lion recalls the building’s earlier connection to St. Mark’s Church.
