NYFE Summary

An earlier church on this site was the first Roman Catholic church built in New York City. It was removed to make room for the present building. The site preserves a link to the city’s early Catholic community.

Six Ionic columns form a portico across the granite front. The low triangular pediment and plain side walls give the church the outline of a classical temple. The street corner provides a view of both the entrance and the long side wall.
