NYFE Summary

John Jacob Astor commissioned the hotel as large hotels followed the city's wealthy residents north. Its decorated stone front rises from the busy corner to a sloping roof. Balconies and heavy stone garlands give the lower floors a different appearance from the repeated windows above.

The King Cole Bar contains Maxfield Parrish's Old King Cole mural. It was first painted for the Knickerbocker Hotel and later moved here. The painting gives visitors using the bar another connection to the city's early hotel history.
