NYFE Summary
After Staten Island became part of New York City, its civic center shifted from Richmondtown to St. George. Borough President George Cromwell planned a group of public buildings along the waterfront. Only Borough Hall and the neighboring county courthouse were completed from that larger plan.
The clock tower rises above the ferry-side streets and can be seen from the harbor. Inside, Frederick Charles Stahr's murals and reliefs illustrate events in Staten Island history. The building still houses the Borough President's office and other civic departments.
