NYFE Summary

This building combined stores below with commercial lofts above as Fifth Avenue changed from a residential avenue into a shopping district. Mark Cross, the leather-goods maker, shared the ground floor with the clothing retailer that gave the building its name.

Blue-and-white terra-cotta panels recall Wedgwood ceramics and English decorative design. The ornament sits between broad groups of windows suited to a commercial building. Looking above the altered shops reveals the contrast between a practical frame and a carefully decorated front.
