NYFE Summary

The state built this storehouse for arms before Central Park took shape. The city later used it for a police station and weather bureau. It also became the first home of the American Museum of Natural History.

Octagonal towers and a notched roofline give the brick building the outline of a fortress. The entrance steps have cannon-shaped posts and rifle-shaped railings. A gallery now presents changing exhibitions.
