NYFE Summary

The museum began in a SoHo warehouse in 1977 and moved to this building a decade later. It treats drawing as a subject in its own right, with exhibitions and publications that examine how people use it to think and make art.

Past exhibitions have shown work by tattoo artists, chefs, novelists and prisoners alongside visual artists. Displays range across periods and traditions rather than following a single artist or school. Educational programs and exhibition guides offer more context for the work on view.
