NYFE Summary
Cass Gilbert died before this courthouse was finished. His son continued the work, completing one of the elder architect’s final designs. The building took the name of Supreme Court Justice Thurgood Marshall in 2001.
Ten tall columns form the portico facing Foley Square. A narrow tower rises behind it to a gold-colored pyramidal roof. The combination makes the building recognizable both from the square and from farther away.
