NYFE Summary

The present church is the third on this site. The first burned in the great fire of 1776. Its replacement was taken down after structural damage developed in 1838. The churchyard survived those changes and preserves graves from earlier periods of the city's history.

Alexander Hamilton and his wife, Eliza, are buried here. Hamilton's funeral procession crossed the city after his death in the 1804 duel with Aaron Burr. Other burials include steamboat developer Robert Fulton and Revolutionary War general Horatio Gates.
