NYFE Summary

The regiment grew from a Brooklyn guard unit formed during the Civil War. Its headquarters included a drill hall, company rooms, a library and dining spaces. Such buildings served as military clubs as well as training and storage facilities.

A deep entrance arch stands between round towers with battlements. Rough stone at the base gives way to red brick above. The largest corner tower rises over the Bedford Avenue and Pacific Street intersection, while the broad drill hall extends behind the entrance building.
