NYFE Summary

The institution began as a savings bank for merchants' clerks. Its large columns and solid stone walls gave a small depositor's bank the appearance of a classical temple.

The former banking space became the Daryl Roth Theatre in 1996. It now serves ticketed Off-Broadway performances. From the square, four tall columns and the old bank name still identify the building's first purpose.
